What we will do in government
These are the movement's commitments to the country — the big changes we are running to make. Members govern this programme directly: any verified member can propose a new pledge or propose to repeal one, and every pledge stands or falls on a member vote.
Economy & opportunity
A basic income for every citizen
A guaranteed monthly payment so no one is left without the means to live.
Every citizen receives a guaranteed basic income, paid directly and unconditionally, so that no one is left destitute through unemployment, illness or old age. The scheme is designed to be simple, universal and hard to game, and is funded by closing loopholes, cutting waste and taxing unproductive wealth.
Anti-corruption
Investigate every corruption case
A standing pledge to pursue all corruption allegations to their conclusion.
Every credible allegation of corruption is investigated and, where the evidence supports it, prosecuted — regardless of who is implicated. We will publish the status of each case and remove the political interference that lets cases stall or disappear.
Government reform
A smaller parliament
Reduce the number of seats so the legislature is proportionate to the population.
The size of parliament is cut so that the number of representatives is proportionate to the population and the cost of government falls. Fewer, better-resourced members, with stronger scrutiny of the executive, instead of a chamber expanded for patronage.
Islands & local government
Abolish the Malé City Council
End the overlapping city authority in the capital, the seat of national government.
The Malé City Council is abolished. The capital is the seat of national government, and a separate city authority there duplicates services, blurs accountability and competes with the state. Governance of the capital is folded into the national administration, with services delivered directly and transparently.
Land & housing
Reclaim the 99-year island leases
Repeal the long leases and buy our islands back from investors.
We will repeal the 99-year leases that hand our islands to private investors and, where leases have already been signed, buy the islands back. Land and islands are the inheritance of the people, not an asset to be sold off for short-term revenue.
Pledge proposals
Adds and repeals proposed by members, in debate and on the ballot. A passed pledge is adopted; a passed repeal retires the pledge.
